Cool off this summer with this sweet ice cream cone banner! A fun paper project, this banner is perfect for summer parties, seasonal decor or an ice cream social! Use your favorite patterned scrapbook paper to create a fun ice cream craft!
Good morning! With only one week of June left, it really feels like summer is in full swing around here! When I think of July, I think of swimming, playing at the park, sunny days and ice cream! I love paper crafting, and you can’t go wrong with a fun paper banner – especially when it is ice cream-themed!! Perfect for ice cream socials, summer soirees or just because, this banner is so sweet. It was easy to make and any patterned or solid card stock can work. Create one in time for July – National Ice Cream month! :)
Supplies Needed for Ice Cream Cone Banner
- Free printable pattern: Located at the end of this post
- Colored patterned or solid paper for ice cream
- I used Core’dinations patterned cardstock in Pastels
- Tan/brown paper for cone and cherry stems
- I used paper from the DCWV paper stack “My Sunshine”
- Pink or red paper for cherry
- Tape runner or glue stick
- Hot glue gun
- Foam tape
- Paper cutter
- Scoring board and stylus (optional)
- Scissors, ruler, hole punch, pencil
Step One: First, use the free printable pattern to cut out the cones from the brown or tan paper.
Step Two: To make the top of the ice cream cones, cut strips of paper 1.5″ wide by 11″ long from the patterned paper.
Score the strips of paper every 1/4″. I used a scoring board and stylus which made this go quickly! Accordion fold the paper along your scored lines. Adhere the ends of the paper together using a glue stick or a tape runner.
To finish creating the paper medallion, cut a small square from a piece of card stock. Push the accordion folded ring down so the back of it is face up. Hold it in place while you stick the square piece of paper, glue side down, onto the center of the medallion. Hold for about a minute until the glue is set.
Top the medallion with a matching paper circle.
Step Three: Using hot glue or a glue stick, adhere the medallions to the tops of the cones.
Step Four: Once the medallions have been attached to the cones, add the cherries to the top!
Step Five: Cut out a plain circle of card stock using the pattern, this will be for the back of the ice cream cones to allow them to be strung as a banner. Punch two holes on either side of the circle close to the edge. I initially punched my holes along the center line of the circle, but my ice cream cones tipped forward, so I found it worked best punching the holes closer to the top of the ice cream cone. You can see my two sets of holes in the pictures below. Adhere the circle to the back of each ice cream cone using foam tape so it stands away from the cone a bit.
Finally string yarn, twine, or ribbon through the punched holes.
The banner is complete!! :)
As I mentioned above, I love paper crafting! I like being able to complete a project in a short amount of time (especially since I usually only have time to craft during nap time), and I find I can usually paper craft quicker than I can complete a sewing project! A few of my paper projects have been featured over at AllFreePaperCrafts and I feel honored to be included along with so many other wonderful projects! If you are looking for inspiration, this site has tons of ideas!! I have several fun paper projects coming up in July and I can’t wait to share them with you! Have a great rest of your week and stay cool! After writing this post, I think I’m in the mood for an ice cream cone!! :)
